well my step dad was a smoker for 23 years finally the doctors told him he has lung disease, well he’s not smoking now!! i guess all it takes is a big scare!!
Well, neither hubby nor I could stop for very long and were kind of desperate. (both smoked 1-1.5 packs a day). Well we were studying the LDS religion with some missionaries and you know how they are against smoking so they suggested that we pray for help. We decided to stay Catholic and not convert to Mormon, so we prayed a Catholic prayer, the “Hail Mary” every time we wanted a cigarette. I stopped May 1981 and Hubby stopped using the same method, Dec 1981… best decision we made to stop… I was getting a lot of bronchitis and other repercussions from smoking – he had only 80 percent lung capacity as a young man… then when tested 10 years after giving up smoking his lung capacity had gone up to 97 percent! I suppose if your spiritual path was something different like Zen you could do a yoga breathing move with a mantra every time you wanted a cigarette – I bet that would work also.
