Okay I will do my best to organize all this information so that it is readable, please bear with me.
I am a 19 year old male, smoked from about age 14-17, very heavily (sometimes chain smoking a pack at a time), but usually around 1/2 to 3/4 pack a day.
I had never had brochitis until I was 16 (except when I was a baby), but I came down with a very bad case lasting around 3 months, requiring lung steroids. Ever since then I have developed bronchitis around 2-3 times a year, but only when exposed to allergens (dogs). It begins with sneezing, then alot of nasal drip occours, sore throat, then BOOM, I wake up with a respiratory infection (bronchitis), it usuallt takes around 7-15 days to clear without antibiotics ( no health care ). Mind you since I quit smoking the recovery time is much quicker, but still gets me very down at times, and can be very annoying. I dont really seem to develop any problems whatsoever if I am not exposed to allergens.
I have read alot about chronic bronchitis, but I am not sure if this is plausable at my age. I also want to know, if it is chronic bronchitis, is he damage irreversible, or can exercise and staying healty repair my chronic brochitis (assuming thats what it is).
Oh and I used to ‘hack’ up phlegm even when not sick, but that has not happened since I quit smoking, also I can almost always hear a wheezing sound in my breath when i exhale deeply, even when not sick.
I realize this is alot of information, But i cannot afford to goto a MD and I really want to take care of this problem and keep my lungs healthy for the long run. I will be on for a while to vote best answer promptly. Thanks all for your time !
