Think of every reason you have to quit, think of the very big reasons and the small reasons, and add them all up in your mind and visualize all of them. If you have enough reasons, you won’t want to smoke, if not, light one up.

I’ve been trying (not real hard) for years. I’ve heard cold turkey is the only way, but I haven’t been able to. I’m using the patch. I know the alternative is black lungs and a portable breathing machine hooked up to my nose.

I’m not sure if any of these work but try to chew gum, specially made for this stuff, or use a patch. Pez was made to help stop smoking, try to do more things to take your mind off of it. Go for a walk in the forest, or hang out by the creek. Sorry that is all I’ve got. Hope it helps. ^^’

We each have our own little tricks that help us through the tough spots.

I quit smoking in November, 2001. The little trick that worked for me was never having cash on hand. That way, when the urge to smoke was really strong, and I wanted to run into the gas station and buy a pack, I would’ve had to write a check. That little time to stop and actually think about it really helped.

My youngest daughter (she was 4 at the time) was also an inspiration. When I was dying for a cigarette , she would say, “please don’t smoke, Mommy” and I just couldn’t disappoint her. Now, 6 years later, she proudly tells people, “I helped my mom quit smoking!”

Best of luck to you! I know you can do it! :D

You need to RESOLVE to quit smoking once and for all. Once you firmly make up your mind, there will be no looking back. Resolution is the key.

I quit using the patch and it worked well, but there were some other things I did that helped. First, on the day you quit, clean your house and car, get rid of all evidence of smoking. You’ll really enjoy the nice clean smell. Find something not to harmful that can replace smoking for the first few days. I ate carrot sticks constantly because the shape is similar to cigarettes and it gave me something to do with my hands. I also drank a lot of coffee. Make a list of 100 reasons to quit. After the obvious ones it can become an exercise in creativity but soon you’ll realize there are so many benefits to what you’re doing. When you really feel like smoking, take out the list and read it. Tell a lot of people you’re quitting. If you’re like me you won’t want to admit defeat if you fail. Keep bottled water with you and when you feel like going out for a smoke break, just go outside and drink the water. That way you’re not completely changing your routine. Another nice thing to do is put the money you would have spend in cigarettes in a bank and at the end of the year spend it on something really great. I was able to afford a trip to Cuba so it was definitely worth it!

I was a smoker many years ago. I quit cold turkey with help from my husband. I tried to not buy cigarettes and stay out of situations where I really desired smoking. This included staying away from bars and I really missed lighting up while driving. Of course I couln’t stop driving but I just told myself over and over again, “I can do this.” Pretty soon the cravings just went away. When I was tempted to restart I thought about how much they cost, how others loved me, and how bad cigs are for the human body. You know, it really isn’t cool to smoke and smart people don’t smoke. You can do this!

http://quitnet.com/ Try this it has support with articles, forums, buddies etc…. lots of stuff. Plus, it gives a detailed account of how much money you have saved, how many cigs you haven’t smoked and more. I used it (and still check my statistics) 5 years ago and I was able to quit (and stay quit) from having a 3 pack a day habit. Good luck, don’t give up!

Who is in control of your hands?

If you are, then tell your hands not to put that junk in your mouth.

Because it is you that is or should be in control.

If your a faced with any doubts, just tell your self as many times as you need to, that: I am in control here.

It would help a lot if you didn’t have any cigarettes around that your hands could get to.

I started counting hours since I quit, (wow, I went 36 hours! etc) then days, then weeks and months and years…..it gets easier and easier….I’m at 6 years, 5 months and 25 days….You can do it too! Hang in there

I have smoked 32 years…..

I Quit “for REAL” this time , just over two weeks ago. I only used the patch 1 day and the gum 2 days…. to get over the “habit” part of smoking.

I am going COLD TURKEY…. and it has been T O U G H , but I am so EXCITED about conquering the addiction, that the “cravings” are easy to dismiss.

A week or two before YOU stop smoking… change your patterns OF SMOKING. Smoke only outdoors while standing up, do not smoke while driving or talking on the phone or at you computer… do NOT smoke after meals. Drink a glass of water after your meals and THEN go outside to have a cig. DO ANYTHING you can THINK of to STOP your “normal” patterns of smoking. That way , when you DO quit, and you sit down in your favorite chair, YOUR HEAD won’t be saying “HEY WHERE is my cigarette?”

Replace every other cigarette with a piece of nicotine gum for a couple of days… then substitute regular gum or candy, ALLLLLL while cutting down on how many you smoke a day.
EAT a LOT of fresh fruit and veggies! Also pretzels! Cinnamon gum and candies REALLY seem to help a lot of smokers to overcome the “moment”. too.

Let me know if you need a sounding board person to HELP you, ‘cuz I would be honored to assist.

ok so the nomeds route… here are two things to try, that cost no money and they help… when you want a smoke, breath deeply in from your mouth and out from your nose.. or when you get the urge, say to yourself, “i will smoke one in 5 minutes” normally when 5 minutes has come around ou will have forgotten, and if you dont, say “another 5 minutes” one more thing to do is get really sick where you cant get out of bed… the kind of sickness that makes you think putting anything close to your mouth will make you sick… but then again it is hard to make yourself sick like that!! well i hope the first two answers worked..

I quit about 10 yrs. ago, without any medication.
1. Smoking is a stress reliever, not a healthy one but people smoke as a means of dealing with stress.
2. When you first began to smoke, you didn’t start out smoking a pack a day (or whatever amount you presently smoke per day). Wean yourself, by going without one cig on first day, 2 cigs on second day, three on third day and so on.
However if you back slide, don’t punish yourself. Be gentle and loving with yourself, and start over again till you get it.
3. Write out 2 lists, one: why you want to smoke, including what benefits you believe you get from smoking.
two: why you want to quit, including any health risks you know of.
4. Chew a handful of salted sunflower seeds when the craving gets to be overwhelming. Sunflower seeds contain a naturally occurring substance that helps you quit.
For every week you go without cigs, do some small thing for yourself as a tiny treat, nothing fattening.
5. Put the money you are not spending on cigs in a bank, jar or whatever you know you’ll save it in, and when you’ve been free of cigs for one year take all the money and spend it on a trip or new clothes, or something wonderful as a way to treat yourself for quitting.
6. Pray. Ask God to please help you. Nicotine addiction is one of the most serious addictions there is. Folks don’t understand it is a life threatening addiction.
You might even google…Quit Smoking for good.
Lots of good info on the web to help anyone quit. Do It!!!
I’m with you. Anyone can quit if they put their mind to it.
